Heat the oil in a pot over medium heat.
Add the 3 popcorn kernels to the pot.
Once the kernels have popped, add the remaining popcorn and cover the pot and take off the heat for 30 seconds. This will allow all kernels to heat to the same temperature and equalize.
Return the pot to the heat with the lid slightly ajar
Shake the pot occasionally until the popping slows down. Approx 2 seconds between pops.
Remove from heat and let it sit for a minute before serving.
There should be no unpopped kernels and no burnt kernels.
