Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Lightly grease 8x8 or 9x9 pan. If using glass, reduce to 325 & bake 5-10 minutes less.
Combine together cocoa, salt, baking powder & flour. Add nuts.
In a microwave-safe bowl, or saucepan on low heat, melt the butter, then add the sugar and stir to combine. Continue to heat, just until the mixture is hot (about 110°F to 120°F), but not bubbling & starts to look shiny. This dissolves more sugar & will produce a shiny top crust for the brownies.
Combine eggs & coffee
Add melted butter & sugar mixture and the eggs & coffee to dry ingredients. Stir in chocolate chips which should melt. Spoon mixture into pan & smooth the top
Bake for 45 minutes for 8x8 or 35 for 9x9 until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out with just a few moist crumbs.
Cool on a rack for 1 hour before slicing.
