Pre-heat to 325 degrees
In a large bowl whisk together flour, salt, baking soda, ginger, cloves and cinnamon.
In separate bowl beat together butter, shortening, 3 C flour until light and fluffy.
Then beat in molasses.
Add eggs 1 at a time beating well after each addition.
Gradually beat in flour mixture and mix well.
In shallow bowl put in remaining ½ C sugar.
Form dough into 1- 1 ½ “ balls and roll in sugar.
Arrange balls about 4” apart and flatten slightly w/ bottom of glass dipped in sugar.
Bake for 15 minutes until puffed and golden.
