Layer the dry ingredients in a mason jar, starting with the flour and finishing with the cinnamon. Seal the jar tightly and label it with the following instructions for later use.
Instructions for Making Cinnamon Rolls:
Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
Prepare the dough:
In a bowl, combine the dry ingredients from the mason jar with ½ cup buttermilk and ¼ cup melted butter. (If you don't have buttermilk then add 1 tablespoon vinegar or lemon juice to a 1 cup measuring cup, then fill the rest of the way with either milk, coconut or soy milk. Stir until a dough forms. If the dough is too sticky, add a little extra flour until it reaches the right consistency.
Roll out the dough:
On a lightly floured surface, roll the dough into a rectangle about ¼ inch thick.
Lightly butter the dough then add cinnamon sugar:
In a small bowl, mix ¼ cup brown sugar with 1 tablespoon ground cinnamon. Sprinkle this mixture evenly over the rolled-out dough.
Roll and slice:
Starting from one edge, carefully roll the dough into a tight log. Slice the roll into 8-10 even pieces.
Bake the cinnamon rolls:
Place the rolls in a greased baking dish. Bake at 375°F for 20-25 minutes or until the rolls are golden brown.
Optional icing:
For an added touch, mix ½ cup powdered sugar, 1-2 teaspoons milk, and ½ teaspoon vanilla extract to drizzle over the warm rolls.
Let the cinnamon rolls cool slightly, then enjoy the delicious, homemade treat!
