Use wax paper on the bottoms of your cake pans.
Spray the cake pan with nonstick baking spray and place the wax paper in the pan before adding the cake batter.
Add the cake batter in your pan and tap the cake pan lightly on the counter to even out the batter.
Level off the top of the cake if it has a domed top.
Create two layers by torting the cake if desired.
Using an angled spatula, add some frosting to the cake plate to glue the cake.
Add one layer of the cake to the cake plate, pressing down.
Add pieces of parchment paper under the cake to catch excess frosting.
Frost the cake using a spatula, keeping it flat and not lifting it to avoid crumbs.
Angle the spatula to smooth out the frosting.
If the cake breaks, place the pieces on top and continue frosting.
Use the bottom of the cake as the top for a smoother finish.
Frost the sides and top of the cake, smoothing with the spatula.
You can stop at the crumb coat or add more frosting for a fully frosted cake.
Decorate with sprinkles.
