In a large mixing bowl, whisk together ½ cup of warm milk, 1 tbsp of water, 1 tsp of active dry yeast, 1 tbsp of melted butter, 1 egg, and 1 tbsp of sugar.
Mix in 1 & ¾ cups of all purpose flour and knead until a smooth dough forms (about 5 minutes). The dough should be slightly tacky, but if it's too sticky to work with and knead, add 1-2 tbsp of all purpose flour when kneading.
Transfer the dough back to the mixing bowl and let it rise somewhere warm for 2 hours, or until fully doubled in size. I turn my oven on to 350F and let the dough sit on top of the oven where it's warm!
Once the dough has risen, divide it into 4 equal pieces. Shape into buns and place on a parchment paper lined baking sheet.
Make an egg wash from 1 egg and 2 tsp of water. Brush the dough with the egg wash and then place on top of your oven while your preheat it to 375.
The buns should rise more and look puffy! Transfer to the oven and bake for 16-18 minutes, or until the top is golden brown.
Store in an airtight container for up to 2 days, or freeze!
