Guyanese Fried Bake
  1. In a large bowl, combine the flour, baking powder, salt, and sugar.

  2. Gradually add the warm water and mix until a soft dough forms.

  3. Knead the dough for a few minutes until smooth and elastic.

  4. Cover the dough and let it rest for 30 minutes.

  5. Divide the dough into 8 equal pieces and roll each piece into a ball.

  6. In a large skillet, heat about 2 inches of vegetable oil over medium-high heat.

  7. Fry the bakes in batches for 2-3 minutes per side, or until golden brown.

  8. Drain the fried bakes on a paper towel-lined plate and serve warm.
