Wash the basmati rice to remove excess starch
Soak the rice for 15 minutes
Use a wide and big pot, add 5 times more water than the rice and 2 tsp salt per 200 g or 1 cup of rice, bring to a boil
Drain the rice and add it to the boiling water, stir gently and let it boil for 5 minutes
Drain the rice thoroughly using a colander
Put the pot back on the stove, add a little water just to cover the bottom, add the drained rice, cover and cook on low heat for 5-7 minutes until tender
Transfer the cooked rice to a serving dish
