Dissolve brown sugar in 1 cup warm water.
Add soy sauce (~¼ cup) , liquid smoke and olive oil to equal about 2 cups total.
Season salmon filet with garlic powder and black pepper (lemon pepper optional).
Place filet with skin up and add marinade.
Let marinade >30 minutes.
Lightly grease pan (salmon has plenty of fat) and fry scale-side down for ~7 minutes on medium heat.
Flip and cook filet for 4 minutes on opposite side.
Let filet rest for a few minutes and serve.
