Smothered French Onion Beef And Cheese Skillet
  1. In a large skillet, heat olive oil over medium heat.

  2. Add the ground beef and cook until browned, breaking it up into crumbles.

  3. Remove the beef from the skillet and set aside.

  4. In the same skillet, melt the butter over medium heat.

  5. Add the sliced onions and cook until caramelized, about 20 minutes.

  6. Add the garlic, thyme, salt, and pepper and cook for an additional 2 minutes.

  7. Return the ground beef to the skillet and stir to combine.

  8. Pour in the beef broth and bring to a simmer.

  9. Let the mixture cook for 10-15 minutes, or until the broth has reduced by half.

  10. Preheat the broiler.

  11. Sprinkle the cheeses over the beef and onion mixture.

  12. Place the skillet under the broiler and cook until the cheese is melted and bubbly, about 3-5 minutes.
