Sherri's Chili
  1. Sort and rinse beans the night before.

  2. Fill pot with beans and water and soak overnight with lid on.

  3. In the morning, rinse beans and pot.

  4. Return beans to pot and fill about 2 inches above beans.

  5. Place on stove. Boil water and then turn to a simmer (#2) for a few hours. (No seasonings yet). Refil water as needed until beans are soft.

  6. Season generously with salt to taste.

  7. In a separate pan, cook hamburger meat. Drain off any fat. Season with salt, pepper, and garlic powder.

  8. Once cooked, pour on hot chili spice packets and cans of el pato. Mix together well.

  9. Pour into beans and liquid, stir together.

  10. Taste.

  11. If needs more spice, add one more hot chili packet and 2 more cans of el pato. Mix and add to pot.

  12. Simmer for a bit to let flavors meld together and to reduce to chili consistency.

Not Spicy

  1. Split off some meat (just a little). Pour into mild chili seasoning packets (some of it).

  2. Pour in 8 oz tomato sauce, mix together well.

  3. Put some beans in pot, mix.
