These can be made with either black or pinto beans.
In a large skillet over medium heat water sauté the onion until translucent, add the bay leaf and the diced green pepper, sauté until soft, add garlic and Jalapeno
pepper, continue to sauté until all vegetables are tender. 2.Add the can of fire roasted chilies, stir to combine, add the cumin and oregano - stir well.
Start adding the beans and some of the bean cooking liquid – you might not need all the bean cooking liquid. Start mashing the beans with the back of a spoon or with
a potato masher. Add more of the cooking liquid as needed. You can leave the beans whole if you prefer, partially mashed or all the way mashed. Some people like to put their refried beans in the blender and have them
very smooth. It is a personal choice. When they are the consistency you like add the ½ teaspoon salt and stir to incorporate it. Serve with lime wedges.
