Fill a jam jar with red split lentils.
Add the spices: 2 tsp turmeric, 2 tsp salt, 1 tsp coconut or brown sugar, 1 tsp cinnamon, 1 tsp sweet paprika, 1 tsp cumin powder, 1 tsp yellow mustard seeds, 2 tsp sesame seeds.
Add 400g (1 can) of chopped tomatoes and 2 cans (800ml-1L) of water.
Simmer until the lentils are cooked (35-45 mins), stirring regularly.
Serve as is or with yogurt, coriander, lemon, or toasted sesame seeds.
