Preheat oven to 350°F and grease a 9×13-inch pan.
Combine cake mix, eggs, cherry pie filling, and almond extract in a large bowl. Stir until just blended.
Pour batter into the pan and bake 25–30 minutes, or until a toothpick comes out clean.
In a saucepan, combine sugar, butter, and milk. Boil for 1 minute.
Remove from heat, stir in chocolate chips until smooth.
Pour icing over warm cake. Cool completely before slicing.
