Preheat the oven to 180°C fan setting
Place the sultanas in a saucepan with the rum and bring to a simmer
Allow to simmer for five minutes then switch off the heat
Cover the pan for 10 minutes allowing the sultanas to plump up and absorb the rest of the rum
Chop the apples into roughly centimetre pieces
Toss the apples in a bowl with the sultanas, sugar, cinnamon and vanilla
Add the apple mixture to your crumble dish
Combine the dry crumble ingredients in the same bowl and top the fruit
Bake for 1 hour
Serve with cream
