Italian Meatball Sandwiches
  1. Combine all meatball ingredients using a stand mixer or by hand in a large bowl

  2. Form meatballs slightly larger than golf balls on a sheet pan

  3. Chill meatballs in refrigerator while preparing sauce

  4. In a large pot over medium-high heat, add oil and Italian seasoning and toast for about 1 minute

  5. Add minced onions and garlic and sauté for about 3 minutes

  6. Add cans of crushed tomatoes, salt, and pepper to taste

  7. Bring sauce to a simmer

  8. Drop meatballs into sauce and simmer for about 1 hour until meatballs are cooked through and sauce reaches desired thickness

  9. Cut hoagie rolls open and remove some of the inside to create space for filling

  10. Layer sandwich as follows: bread, provolone slices, meatballs and sauce, shredded mozzarella, and Italian seasoning

  11. Broil sandwich to melt cheese

  12. Serve and enjoy
