Calzone ricotta

Here’s a classic ricotta calzone with sauce recipe that hits all the comfort food notes:

🧀 Ricotta Calzone with Marinara Sauce

🥖 Dough (store-bought or homemade)

• 1 lb pizza dough (enough for 2 calzones)

🧀 Filling:

• 1 cup ricotta cheese

• 1 cup shredded mozzarella

• ¼ cup grated Parmesan or Romano

• 1 egg (optional, for binding)

• ½ tsp garlic powder

• ½ tsp dried oregano or Italian seasoning

• Salt & pepper to taste

• Optional: chopped spinach, pepperoni, sautéed mushrooms, or cooked sausage

🍅 For Serving:

• 1 to 1½ cups warm marinara sauce (homemade or jarred)

    🔧 Instructions:

  1. Preheat oven to 450°F (230°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.

  2. Mix filling: In a bowl, combine ricotta, mozzarella, Parmesan, egg (if using), and seasonings. Stir until creamy. Add optional fillings if desired.

  3. Divide dough in half and roll each piece into a circle about 8–10” wide.

  4. Fill: Spoon filling on one half of each circle, leaving a 1-inch border. Don’t overfill.

  5. Fold & seal: Fold the dough over to make a half-moon shape. Pinch or crimp the edges tightly to seal.

  6. Vent: Cut a small slit in the top or poke with a fork to let steam escape.

  7. Bake: Brush tops with olive oil or egg wash for a golden finish. Bake 15–20 minutes until golden brown.

  8. Serve: Let cool slightly, then serve with warm marinara sauce on the side or spooned over the top.
