Poor Man's Burnt Ends
  1. Cut the chuck roast into 1½-inch cubes. Pat dry with paper towels.

  2. In a small bowl, mix salt, black pepper, garlic powder, and smoked paprika. Sprinkle evenly over the beef pieces, tossing to coat.

  3. Place seasoned beef into the slow cooker. Pour beef broth around the meat.

  4. Cover and cook on LOW for 7–8 hours or HIGH for 4–5 hours, until the beef is very tender.

  5. Carefully remove the beef pieces and place them in a baking dish. Discard excess liquid from the slow cooker.

  6. In a bowl, mix barbecue sauce and brown sugar. Pour over the beef cubes and toss gently to coat.

  7. Bake at 400°F for 15–20 minutes, stirring once halfway through, until the sauce thickens and caramelizes slightly.

  8. Serve warm.
