Heat oven to 180degC.
Put dates, hot water and olive oil in a pot on medium heat until the mixture is about to boil. Cool.
Add baking soda to the mixture.
Sift all the dry ingredients. Put the date mixture into the dry ingredients.
Mix only until you can just see no dry flour. Add more hot water little by little if needed.
Do not overmix.
Pat mixture out lightly on a baking paper-lined board and cut into desired-sized scones.
Put in oven for 30min until a knife inserted in the middle comes out clean.
