In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
In a separate bowl, whisk together the buttermilk, egg, and melted butter.
Add the wet ingredients to the dry ingredients and gently stir until just combined. The batter may be slightly lumpy, and that’s okay.
Heat a large skillet or griddle over medium heat and lightly grease with oil or nonstick cooking spray.
Pour ¼ cup of batter onto the skillet for each pancake. Cook until bubbles form on the surface of the pancake and the edges look set, about 2-3 minutes.
Carefully flip the pancake and cook for an additional 1-2 minutes, or until golden brown and cooked through.
Repeat with the remaining batter, adding more oil or cooking spray to the skillet as needed.
Serve the pancakes warm with your favorite toppings.
