Homemade Corn Dogs
  1. In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, cornmeal, sugar, baking powder, and salt.

  2. In a small bowl, whisk together the milk and egg.

  3. Pour the milk mixture into the flour mixture and stir just until combined (do not overmix).

  4. Insert wooden skewers into the hot dogs.

  5. Heat 2-3 inches of vegetable oil in a heavy bottomed pan or Dutch oven to 350°F.

  6. Dip the hot dogs into the cornmeal batter, coating them completely.

  7. Carefully add the battered hot dogs to the hot oil and fry for 2-3 minutes, turning occasionally, until golden brown.

  8. Remove the corn dogs from the oil and drain on a paper towel-lined plate.

  9. Serve warm.
