Ginger Bug Brewin’ Guide
  1. Wrangle up some fresh ORGANIC ginger root. Get yerself a knob about the size of a big thumb.

  2. Hack it up, skins ’n all. We don’t fuss ’round here. Ya can dice it up all fine and stuff or grate the baby. Toss 2 tbsp. in a jar.

  3. Sling ya in some sugar, about 2 tbsp, white, brown, or whatcha got.

  4. Pour in a cup of some clean water, not that chlorine city water if ya can help it. If ya gotta use tap water, filter or boil it first.

  5. Give ’er a good stir. Let them little critters git to mixin’.

  6. Cover it up loose-like. Ain’t no need fer fancy lids, just a rag or coffee filter and a rubber band. Leave it out at room temp.

  7. Every day fer about a week feed that bug a pinch more chopped ginger and a spoonful of sugar. Stir ’er like ya mean it.

  8. Wait fer the magic. When it starts bubblin’ and smellin’ zesty, ya got yerself a ginger bug, alive and kickin'.

  9. Don’t let it starve. Keep feedin’ it, and it’ll stay happy. Neglect it, and it’ll croak faster than a possum in traffic.

  10. When yer ready to put yer bug to use, strain off the good stuff – pour out that fizzy juice and use it to kickstart yer homemade sodas or any other ferments yer dreamin’ up.

  11. Ya can also tuck ’er in the fridge. Feed it once a week and it’ll snooze all happy-like till ya need it again.
