Warm the milk for 30 seconds in the microwave, then add the instant yeast and the smaller amount of sugar. Set aside for 20 minutes.
In a mixing bowl, add the flour, the remaining sugar, salt, and oil. Pour in the yeast-milk mixture and mix with a fork.
Knead the dough for 5-10 minutes until smooth and elastic. Place in an oiled bowl, cover, and let rise for at least 1 hour.
Prepare the filling by dicing the cooked BBQ pork and chives/spring onions. Mix with 1 tablespoon each of light soy sauce and hoisin sauce, and optionally 1 tablespoon of sesame seeds.
Divide the dough into pieces according to portions chosen. Roll each piece into a circle, place a tablespoon+ of filling in the center, then gather the edges and pleat to form a bun.
Place the buns in a steamer basket lined with parchment paper. Steam for 20 minutes.
