Savory Mushroom & Gruyère Puff Pastry Braid
  1. Heat butter in a skillet over medium heat

  2. Add onions and cook until soft

  3. Add garlic and sauté 1 minute

  4. Add mushrooms, thyme, salt, and pepper

  5. Cook until mushrooms release moisture and it evaporates

  6. Add wine/broth (optional) and cook down

  7. Stir in flour and mix until absorbed

  8. Add cream for richness (optional)

  9. Remove from heat and let cool slightly

  10. Preheat oven to 200°C (400°F)

  11. Place puff pastry sheet on parchment paper

  12. Spread the mushroom mixture down the center third

  13. Top evenly with Gruyère cheese

  14. Cut diagonal strips along both sides of the pastry

  15. Fold strips alternately over the filling to create a braid

  16. Brush with egg wash

  17. Bake 25–30 minutes until golden, puffy, and crisp

  18. Garnish with parsley and slice before serving warm
