Basmati Rice
  1. Rinse rice in a bowl with clean water and drain 3 or 4 times until water runs clean.

  2. Cover rinsed rice with clean water again and let it soak in bowl for 20 to 30 minutes. Drain

  3. Melt butter in a medium sauce pan then add cracked cardamom pods and cinnamon stick. Sizzle for about 30 seconds until fragrant

  4. Add drained rice to pan and stir well to coat the rice with the flavored butter

  5. Add the water and salt and stir to thoroughly mix. Bring to a boil and then immediately turn heat to to the lowest setting

  6. Cover with a tight fitting lid and cook at lowest heat for 12 minutes - DO NOT LIFT THE LID

  7. Remove from heat and let rest for 5 to 10 minutes - DO NOT LIFT THE LID

  8. While rice is resting, add turmeric or saffron threads to 1 tsp of warm water - If Using

  9. When done resting, LIFT LID and pour turmeric or saffron thread water over a small section of the rice - if using, also add cilantro - if using, and fluff with a fork.

  10. Serve immediately
