Shaded Hikes Near Denver For Hot Summer Days
  1. Elkhorn Trail and Eagle’s View Trail — Reynolds Park, Conifer, CO: 4.5 miles, +1,066 ft. Forested loop with peaceful shade, mountain views, and a great close-to-Denver escape.

  2. Brainard Lake via Waldrop Trail — Ward, CO: 6.1 miles, +623 ft. Shaded wooded trail all the way to a beautiful alpine lake with a mountain backdrop.

  3. Lake Isabelle — Ward, CO: 6.6 miles, +675 ft. Pine forest, creeks, wildflowers and a stunning alpine lake at the end.

  4. Chavez + Beaver Brook Loop — Golden, CO: 5.2 miles, +1,125 ft. Shaded forest, wildflowers, bridges, creek crossings, and cool spots to rest by the water.

  5. Maxwell Falls Trail — Evergreen, CO: ~1 mile, +145 ft (if you only hike to the Falls but there are many more miles of trails). Short, easy forest hike with shade, creek views, and a waterfall area.

  6. Bonus: Bergen Peak — Evergreen, CO: 11.1 miles, +2,244 ft. Long, mostly forested climb with a big summit payoff and views of Mount Blue Sky.
