Cook your noodles according to the package directions. Before draining, save a little pasta water—it helps make the sauce glossy and rich instead of dry and sad.
Drain the noodles and set aside, along with the reserved pasta water.
Melt the butter in a skillet over medium heat. Add the garlic and cook for about 30 seconds, just until fragrant.
Stir in the soy sauce and a splash of pasta water. It won’t look like much at first, but give it about a 30 seconds or so.
Once the sauce thickens slightly, add the noodles directly into the pan and toss until everything is coated and silky-looking.
Finish with whatever toppings sound good to you.
