Mix warm milk, egg, sugar, salt, and melted butter or vegetable oil together
Add instant yeast to the mixture
Gradually add all-purpose flour (starting with 4½ cups and adding more as needed) until dough forms
Knead the dough until smooth and elastic
Shape the dough into knots
Top each knot with 1 teaspoon of butter
Allow to rise until fluffy
Bake until golden brown
