Easy Apple Pie Bars
  1. Preheat the oven to 375 degrees F.

  2. Line a square 8" baking pan with parchment paper. You can use a round pan as well.

  3. Wash, core and peel apples. Slice into ¼" thick slices.

  4. In a large bowl, toss apple slices with cornstarch, cinnamon, ginger and cloves. Add brown sugar and lemon juice and toss gently. Set aside.

  5. Melt butter in skillet. Add apples and saute on medium low heat for 3 to 4 minutes, or until softened. Remove from heat and set aside.

  6. Melt butter in microwave, in 15 second increments. Stir and let cool completely.

  7. In a large mixing bowl, whisk together flour, brown sugar, baking soda, baking powder, cinnamon, salt and cloves.

  8. Add cooled butter to flour mixture and stir with a fork. The mixture should resemble coarse crumbs.

  9. Reserve ¾ cup of crumb mixture. Press the remaining mixture into the bottom of prepared pan.

  10. Spread apple slices over crust into an even layer. Make sure to Pour the brown sugar sauce from the pan over the apples.

  11. Sprinkle crumb topping mixture over apples.

  12. Bake bars for 23 to 25 minutes OR until the top is golden brown.

  13. Cool for 10 to 15 minutes.

  14. Serve warm with caramel sauce or caramel ice cream.
