Add the flour, salt, sugar and bicarb to a big bowl. Mix thoroughly and then make a well in the centre and pour in the buttermilk, then stir to combine.
Tip onto a well floured surface and knead for 1-2 mins. Roll into a roughly 20cm circle and cut into quarters.
Heat a griddle or frying pan over a low-medium heat. Add the farls and cook for 8-10 mins on each side, or until golden brown and cooked through.
Enjoy with butter.
