Salted Caramel Butter Bars
  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9x13 inch baking pan or line it with parchment paper.

  2. In a large mixing bowl, cream together the softened butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar until light and fluffy.

  3. Add the eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition. Stir in the vanilla extract.

  4. In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt.

  5. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture, mixing until just combined.

  6. Spread half of the butter base mixture into the prepared baking pan, pressing it down evenly to form a crust.

  7. Bake for 15 minutes until lightly golden.

  8. Remove the crust from the oven and pour the caramel sauce over the warm crust, spreading it evenly.

  9. Spoon dollops of the remaining butter base mixture over the caramel layer. It doesn't need to be completely covered.

  10. Return the pan to the oven and bake for an additional 25-30 minutes, until the top is golden brown and a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.

  11. Remove from the oven and sprinkle sea salt over the top while the bars are still warm. Allow the bars to cool completely in the pan before cutting into squares.
