Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or lightly grease it.
In a large mixing bowl, combine the all-purpose flour, baking powder, sugar, and salt. Stir the dry ingredients together until well mixed.
Cut the cold butter into small cubes and add it to the dry ingredients. Use a pastry cutter or your fingers to work the butter into the flour mixture until it resembles coarse crumbs with pea-sized pieces of butter.
Slowly add the milk, stirring gently with a spoon until the dough just comes together. Be careful not to overmix, as this can make the biscuits dense. If the dough seems too dry, add a little more milk, 1 tablespoon at a time.
Turn the dough out onto a floured surface and gently knead it a few times until it comes together. Pat the dough out into a rectangle about 1-inch thick. Use a biscuit cutter or a round glass to cut the dough into circles. Gather any scraps of dough, re-roll, and cut again until all dough is used.
Place the biscuit rounds onto the prepared baking sheet, spacing them slightly apart. Bake in the preheated oven for 12-15 minutes or until the biscuits are golden brown on top.
Once baked, remove from the oven and let them cool slightly before serving. Enjoy your buttery biscuits warm, with a bit of jam, honey, or butter for extra flavor!
