Preheat oven to 350°F and grease a 8 or 9-inch round cake pan. For easy removal, line the bottom with parchment paper or use a springform pan.
In a large bowl, melt the butter in the microwave. Add the sugar and whisk together.
Then add the eggs, ricotta, vanilla extract, cinnamon, and orange or lemon zest, and whisk until smooth and fully combined.
In a separate bowl, mix together the flour, baking powder, and salt.
Add the dry ingredients into the wet ingredients and mix with a spatula just until combined.
Fold in the mini chocolate chips.
Pour the batter into the prepared cake pan and sprinkle more mini chocolate chips on top.
Bake for ~40-50 minutes depending on your oven, or until a toothpick comes out clean.
Let cake cool for 15 minutes before removing from the pan.
Optionally, dust the cake with powdered sugar before cutting and serving.
