Place the dates and baking soda in a heat-proof bowl, pour boiling water over and let sit for 10 minutes.
Cream butter and sugar, then add the egg, flour, and baking powder.
Puree the dates and mix with the batter.
Bake in a preheated oven at 350˚F (175˚C) for 17-19 minutes.
Make the Toffee Sauce by combining all sauce ingredients except bourbon in a saucepan, boil, remove from heat, stir in bourbon, then spoon over the puddings.
Serve immediately with freshly whipped cream.
