  1. Butter a 9 x 13 inch pan and preheat the oven to 375°F. Set the pan aside.

  2. In a large bowl mix together the sugars, cornstarch, spices and salt.

  3. Peel and core the apples before slicing into thin ⅛ – ¼″ slices. Add the apples to sugar mixture and toss to combine. You can use two big wooden spoons to do this, but I like to use my hands instead. Add the apples to the buttered dish and arrange in an even layer. Set aside.

  4. In a medium bowl, stir together the oats, flour, sugars, cinnamon, nutmeg and salt. Use pastry cutter, a fork or your hands to cut the butter into the mixture until it resembles wet sand and clumps together. Sprinkle the mixture evenly over the apples.

  5. Bake at 375°F for 10 minutes before reducing the temperature to 350°F and baking for 35 more minutes or until the topping is golden brown and the apple layer is bubbling. Allow to cool before eating. We recommend serving with a big scoop of vanilla ice cream 🙂
