Preheat oven to 150 degrees fan forced (or otherwise 170).
Place flour, sugar, coconut in a large bowl. Add cubed butter and rub butter into dry ingredients until the mixture is like breadcrumbs.
Add the vanilla, egg and currants and mix thoroughly. The mixture should come together into a dough, but if its a little crumbly just add a little cold water (i.e. 1 tspn full at a time) until it does.
Roll 1 tbspn of mixture into a ball, then place on a baking paper lined tray and flatten a bit. Repeat with remaining dough.
Bake for approximately 15 minutes or until lightly golden. Then cool on a wire rack.
Combine the icing sugar and vanilla paste with just enough water until the mixture is smooth (probably 2 tspns or so of water, adjust as necessary). Spread icing over biscuits.
