Preheat the oven to 200°C/400°F.
Place the apple slices in a shallow ovenproof dish.
In a large bowl, rub the flour and butter together between your fingertips until the mixture resembles breadcrumbs. Use a sort of combining squeezing and tossing action, like a mystic.
Mix in 50g/⅓oz of the oats and 70g/2½oz of the sugar.
Sprinkle the apples with this mixture and top with the remaining oats and sugar.
Bake in the oven for about 30 minutes or until it is golden brown and crisp on top.
Enjoy with ready-made tinned custard or you could use custard powder. Obviously. (Or better still, use My Perfect Custard recipe page 102)
