Ground Turkey Shepherd's Pie Recipe

Ingredients:

For the Turkey Filling:

For the Mashed Potato Topping:

    Instructions:

  1. Prepare the Mashed Potato Topping: In a large pot, cover the potatoes with cold water and bring to a boil. Add a pinch of salt, reduce the heat, and simmer until the potatoes are tender, about 15-20 minutes. Drain well. Return the potatoes to the pot, add the butter and milk, and mash until smooth and creamy. Season with salt and pepper to taste. Stir in the grated Parmesan cheese if using. Set aside.

  2. Make the Turkey Filling: Heat the olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add the onion and carrots, cooking until softened, about 5 minutes. Add the garlic and cook for another minute.

Add the ground turkey, breaking it up with a spoon, and cook until no longer pink. Stir in the tomato paste, frozen peas, broth, Worcestershire sauce, thyme, and season with salt and pepper. Simmer for about 10 minutes, or until most of the liquid is absorbed. Taste and adjust seasoning as needed.

  3. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C)

  4. Assemble the Shepherd's Pie: Spoon the turkey filling into a 9x13 inch baking dish (or similar size). Spread the mashed potatoes over the top, using a fork to create ridges (they will brown nicely).

Bake in the preheated oven for about 20-25 minutes, or until the mashed potatoes are golden brown and the edges are bubbling.

  5. Serve: Let the Shepherd's Pie cool for a few minutes before serving. This dish is a complete meal in itself, but you can serve it with a side salad or steamed green vegetables for extra nutrition.

Serves 6-8. This Ground Turkey Shepherd's Pie is a lighter take on the classic dish, using ground turkey instead of lamb or beef. It's packed with vegetables and topped with creamy mashed potatoes, making it a comforting and balanced meal. Enjoy your cooking!
