Spiced Apple Cider
Ingredients:
Prepare the Spices:
Place the cinnamon sticks, whole cloves, allspice berries, and sliced ginger (if using) in a piece of cheesecloth or a spice bag. Tie securely with kitchen twine.
Simmer the Cider:
In a large pot or slow cooker, pour in the apple cider.
Add the spice bag and orange slices to the cider.
Stir in the brown sugar or honey until dissolved.
Heat the Cider:
Stovetop Method:
Bring the cider to a simmer over medium heat.
Reduce the heat to low and let it simmer gently for at least 30 minutes. For a stronger spice flavor, simmer for up to 2 hours.
Slow Cooker Method:
Set the slow cooker to low heat.
Allow the cider to mull for 2-4 hours.
Serve:
Remove and discard the spice bag and orange slices.
Ladle the hot spiced cider into mugs.
Garnish with cinnamon sticks, apple slices, or orange slices if desired.
Optional Additions:
For an adult version, add a splash of rum or bourbon to each mug before serving.
