Preheat the oven to 375 degrees F.
Wash the russet potato and prick it with a knife a few times.
Lightly coat the outside of the potato with olive oil and sprinkle with coarse sea salt.
Bake the potato directly on the oven rack for about an hour or until a knife can easily be inserted.
Slice the baked potato in half lengthwise and add salt and pepper to the flesh.
Top the potato with desired toppings such as sautéed mushrooms and spinach, black beans, chili, Bolognese sauce, Greek toppings, broccoli with Alfredo sauce, pulled chicken, or pizza toppings.
