Soak 200g dates in 200ml boiling water
Mix 150g dark black sugar, 1 tablespoon bicarbonate soda, 90g butter, and 2 tablespoons black treacle
Add 175g self raising flour to the mixture
Combine the soaked dates with the batter
Add sherry to taste
Bake until cooked through
For the sauce, combine 200g dark brown sugar, 80g butter, and 1 tablespoon black treacle
Stir in 200g double cream
Add a generous pour of sherry to the sauce
Pour the warm sauce over the pudding
