Preheat oven to 350f
Grease and line 2x 21cm cake pans
Beat sugar and butter until fluffy
Whisk in eggs a little at a time
Add flour, baking powder and fold in
Add milk until the batter falls off the spoon
Divide batter evenly between cake tins
Bake for 23-30 minutes until a toothpick comes out clean
Do not assemble until cakes are completely cooled
