Sauté the onion and garlic in butter until soft and golden.
In a large bowl, combine the bread and grated cheese.
Add the warm onions, milk, eggs, parsley, marjoram, salt, and pepper. Mix well until the mixture comes together.
Shape into dumplings, then press flat into thick patties.
Fry in a pan with a little butter until golden and crisp on both sides.
Serve hot, either with a salad, in broth, or just on their own.
