Nostalgic Birthday Cake
  1. Mix all the dry ingredients in a bowl and then grab a jug and mix all the wet ingredients.

  2. In a large bowl, add butter and sugar and beat using an electric mixer until creamy.

  3. Crack in one egg at a time and beat making sure to use a spatula to mix everything nicely in between each egg.

  4. Pour half of the wet ingredients into the bowl and beat and then add half of the dry. Repeat again and you will have a nice thick batter.

  5. Pour the batter into a greased deep cake pan lined with parchment paper at the bottom and bake in a preheated oven at 180°C for 55 minutes to an hour.

  6. Let it cool in the pan for 10 minutes and then take it out on a wire rack and let it cool completely.

  7. Beat butter and icing sugar until creamy.

  8. Add vanilla essence and milk and then beat again until the buttercream is slightly light and fluffy.

  9. Ice the cake as you'd like, decorate with sprinkles, slice and enjoy.
