Combine all ingredients except for the watermelon garnish in a cocktail shaker over ice.
Shake until mixed.
Pour into a rocks glass over ice.
Cut a small slit into the slice of watermelon and insert the rim of the glass into the cut. Serve immediately.
Tips for Making Reese Witherspoon’s Watermelon Margarita
Use blanco tequila: While there are different varieties of tequila to choose from, for a light and fruity margarita such as this one, it would be best to use a blanco tequila so the booze isn’t overpowering the other flavors of this drink.
Strain the puree: This recipe technically called for watermelon juice or puree, so I chose to go the puree route and blend up freshly sliced watermelon myself. However, I do think the pulp and the seeds from the watermelon can be undesirable to sip on. So if you have the patience, I recommend straining it out to extract the juice.
Or make it frozen: If you would rather not strain the puree, instead, pour the watermelon into ice cube molds and freeze them. Then when it’s time to make the margarita, blend it instead of shaking it over ice for a frozen variety of this drink. Because who doesn’t love a frozen margarita during the summer months?
